L'Amb. Jean-Paul Carteron invite l'Ordre de Malte au Forum de Crans Montana

M. Peter Murphy, Ambassadeur Extraordinaire et Plénipotentiaire de l'Ordre de Malte  a participé activement au récent Forum de Crans Montana sur l'Afrique et présenté les réussites extraordinaires de cette Organisation pour tout ce qui touche au soulagement de la souffrance notamment en Afrique.

Crans Montana Forum in 1996 : an extraordinary year !

Numerous international high dignitaries joined the annual session of the Crans Montana Forum in 1996. After 6 years of activities, the Forum was on the way, enjoying a strong support from the Swiss Federal Government.

Indeed in 1998 (the Forum's HQ were already based in Monaco since 2 years) the Swiss Federal Council invited an International Conference on Africa at the level of Heads of State in the framework of the Forum itself in Crans-Montana (VS).

Mr. Flavio Cotti, Minister of Foreign Affairs then President of Switzerland

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Flavio Cotti launched on this occasion the Crans Montana Initiative of the Swiss Confederation aiming to boost Economic Development in Africa. The Forum's African activities started on this very occasion, thanks to the Swiss Confederation ande the support of its Ministers !

I organized in the Forum itself a meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia. Among them, President Askar Akaye, President of Khirgistan.

Mr. Andrei Kozyrev, the young and dynamic Minister of Foreign Affairs of Boris Eltsine, President of the Russian Federation, was a good friend of mine. Together we worked on the Middle East Peace Process and every year, at Christmas time, he came with his daughter to my chalet in the Alps for skying.

One of the Founders of the Forum, Mr. Bronislav Geremek here besides President Jelu Jelev of Bulgaria. Mr. Geremek was very active in the Forum activities.

Mr. Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister of Macedonia when President Kiro Gligorov was Head of State. I worked with President Gligorov  on the sensitive Constitution of Macedonia. Then Mr. Branko Crvenkovski became President of the country.

Mr. Ali Akbar Velayati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran attended every Forum of Crans Montana for more than 10 years ! He is now among the key decision makers of the country.

The young and dynamic Abdelaziz Bouteflika welcomed at the Forum by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Joseph Deiss.

The Minister of Finance of Italy, Mr. Augusto Fantozzi. He will join the Forum quite every year. I know that he had pleasure to join our Monaco sessions and share with me, on such occasions, some good restaurant of the Principality.

Jean-Paul Carteron, Citoyen d'Honneur de la Roumanie par décision du Conseil Régional de Hunedoara

Je fus parmi les premiers qui se posèrent à Bucarest au lendemain de l'effacement des Ceaucescu. Ce fut le début d'une longue amitié avec un grand pays.

J'ai assisté à l'éclosion d'une démocratie exceptionnellement vivante et dynamique. J'ai rencontré ou observé des hommes de grande envergure qui ont construit la modernité de ce pays. Et puis les autres.

J'ai bien des choses encore à dire; ça sera pour bientôt !

Depuis 1990 j'ai reçu des mains du Président Iliescu la plus haute distinction de Roumanie, l'Ordre du Mérite - 1ère classe puis je fus fait Citoyen d'honneur.. Un grand moment d'émotion !
